Under the guidance of the Recreational Therapy site internship supervisor, the Recreational Therapy internship consists of a minimum of 560 hours over a 14 week period. We are unable to accept an intern who will graduate prior the completion of the internship. Internships are available year round to students nationwide.

Interns will have the opportunity to develop, implement, document and evaluate a broad range of goal oriented structured and unstructured group and individual therapeutic recreation services and programs, and Recreational Therapy treatment services for the patient population in private healthcare, skilled nursing, and assisted living.

Education / Experience:

  • Enrolled in a 4-year degree program, or higher, in the field of Therapeutic Recreation or Recreational Therapy from an accredited college or university with the status of a Junior or Senior.
  • Equivalent of six months experience in recreational program planning and leading AND/OR six months experience in working with persons with disabilities (3 months of which should involve recreational programming duties).
  • Solid academic standing with strong references from university internship supervisor.
  • 60 – 120 semester hours experience working with the older adult population through a recreational therapy program AND/OR at a facility that serves the older adult population preferred.
